What makes a real difference in a household
We have spent years working alongside Kota Kinabalu families — and we know exactly which details matter and which ones rarely do.
← Back to HomeSix things families consistently tell us they value
The same companion, each time
Consistency matters far more than variety for older people at home. We do not rotate companions unless there is a genuine reason to.
Written updates after every visit
A short note shared with the family — not a phone call that interrupts a work day. Plain language, relevant details, nothing padded.
Arrangements that adjust with life
Households change. Work schedules shift. We adjust the arrangement with reasonable notice — no penalties, no rigid packages.
Genuine Kota Kinabalu knowledge
Our coordinators and companions know the local area well — neighbourhood resources, community activities, and services that are worth knowing about.
Careful information handling
Household information stays within the arrangement. Nothing is passed to outside parties. Families can ask about our data practices at any time.
A real person to call
Questions go to the coordinator managing the arrangement, not a general inbox or a call centre. Families know who to reach and how.
Team experience with household arrangements in Sabah
Kirana's founding team has spent more than six years working in household and community support contexts across Kota Kinabalu. That background shapes how we match companions, how we brief them before a first visit, and how we handle situations that don't go to plan.
- Companion briefings written specifically for each household
- Coordinator with direct experience in community support
- Service adapted to East Malaysian household patterns
Technology help that is actually patient
Our technology connection sessions are led by Daniel, who has a background in adult learning. He sets up devices at the relative's pace, explains in plain terms, and returns for a refresher if it's needed. The large-print quick guide we leave behind is written for someone who has never used a smartphone — not for someone who has forgotten a setting.
- Sessions scheduled around the relative's energy levels
- Large-print guide left in the home
- Refresher visit available without additional arrangement
Service that keeps the whole family informed
Our Family Coordination service was designed specifically for households where responsibility is spread across several relatives — different schedules, different distances, different relationships with the older person at home. A written support plan and shared timeline give everyone a common reference point without requiring a family meeting every week.
- Single point of coordination for multi-relative households
- Shared written timeline accessible to all family members
- Curated list of local Kota Kinabalu resources
Clear, stated pricing in Malaysian Ringgit
Every Kirana service has a single stated fee. Companionship Visit Coordination is RM 480. Family Coordination and Information is RM 1,950. Technology Connection Help is RM 4,500. These figures cover the service described — there are no additional charges unless a family requests something outside the original scope, which would be discussed and agreed first.
- Stated fees with no hidden additions
- Out-of-scope requests agreed before any cost is incurred
- Payment terms confirmed in writing at the start

Things you won't find in most arrangements
A written household briefing before day one
Every new companion receives a written briefing — routines, preferences, things to know — before they knock on the door. The first visit is never a guessing game.
Scheduled service reviews at fixed intervals
We check in formally at one month and three months into any arrangement. If something needs adjusting, we want to know before it becomes a problem.
Large-print guides left in the home
For technology sessions, we leave a large-print quick guide that the relative can consult independently. Simple instructions, large text, no jargon.
Curated Kota Kinabalu resource lists
Our family coordination includes a curated list of local contacts, community groups, and services relevant to the household. Families do not have to search from scratch.
